A Christmas market is a street market held during the four weeks of Advent to celebrate the coming of the Christmas holiday. The tradition of Christmas markets dates to the Late Middle Ages in the German-speaking regions of Europe. In this painting, Skarbina, (German Impressionist painter of Croatian roots), depicts the market in Berlin. Present day Berlin is a city of over 70 markets, which open in late November and close just after Christmas.
