The subject of Portrait of a Young Woman (also known as La fornarina) is traditionally identified with the baker Margherita Luti, Raphael's mistress. Legend says that, after spending an exhausting night with her, Raphael developed a fever and died. This supposedly happened on Good Friday in 1520.
