During next month, every Wednesday and Sunday, we will show you an artwork from the database of wartime losses – www.lootedart.gov.pl, conducted by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. Due to the World War II, Poland has lost over 70% of its material cultural heritage.

This portrait has been obtained and included into the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw in 1937, from the notation of L. Kalinowski. After the outbreak of World War II it was taken away by Germans and provided to warehouses located in Bureau of Special Representative for Inventory and Protection of Art Works and Culture Heritage in Cracow. That took place probably during the first transport in 1939. For the purposes of governor Frank's residence it was then given at architect's Franz Koettgen disposal. The later history of the painting remains unknown.
