The Basket of Roses

Oil on canvas • 160 x 120 cm
  • Henri Biva - 23 January 1848 - 2 February 1929 Henri Biva 1891

Hello May!

Henri Biva was an academic painter of landscapes, still lifes, and flowers. The technique with which he excels is oil on canvas, but he also practices watercolor and pastel. Of exceptional size, this painting is a major work of the artist. Biva painted it at the age of 43, when he had just received several awards and was an established artist. The subject matter is rather rare for him ... but look at these beauties! The composition of the canvas is bold, with a gigantic bouquet in the foreground, which gives the viewer the impression of lying in the grass. This "still life in nature" also allows Biva to express his great talent as a colorist. The variety of green tones is exceptional, contrasting with the warm tones of the roses.

Have a great Monday, everyone! Here you will find a selection of the most beautiful flowers ever painted. <3
