German Renaissance master Lucas Cranach the Elder was a lucky guy. He lived in the troubled times of the Protestant Reformation which, for some painters, meant disaster. But Cranach found a lucrative niche—portraits of German dukes and leaders of the Protestant Reformation. He even became a close friend of Martin Luther. He also created this double painting of Adam and Eve.
