Orchard in Bloom

oil on canvas • 55,5 x 65,5 cm
  • Claude Monet - 14 November 1840 - 5 December 1926 Claude Monet 1878

Dating from 1880, Monet probably created Orchard in Bloom in Vétheuil where he drew inspiration for his landscape topics. The painting attracts the spectator’s attention by the atmosphere of the blossoming alley where the painter revealed a certain Japanese influence which can be traced back to his first impressionist paintings. This influence is kept until 1886 in his paintings produced in Giverny where the garden with water lilies stimulated his Water Lilies series. The Orchard in Bloom shows the contrast between the depth of the path and the planar rendering of the upper part with tree branches and blossoms. Similar to other Monet’s paintings, the human figure disappears in the tangle of blossoming tree branches.

How calming this Monet is! We present it thanks to National Gallery Prague. Take care <3
