Zdenka Braunerová was among the first distinctive female painters whose artwork could be compared alongside her male colleagues. Her close friend, the painter Antonín Chittussi, strongly influenced her decision to become a painter. Beginning in the 1880s, she took regular trips to Paris to meet with the prominent figures of French literature and art, for example Élémir Bourges, Anatole France, and Odilon Redon. Her landscape paintings are affected both by Chittussi and French landscape painting. Braunerová’s paintings, as well as watercolors and drawings, provide a sensitive and intimate reflection of seemingly common and ordinary landscapes and secluded places.

We show this beautiful landscape thanks to the National Gallery in Prague.
