Woman with a Parasol

oil on canvas • 100 × 81 cm
  • Claude Monet - 14 November 1840 - 5 December 1926 Claude Monet 1875

On this day in 1840, one of the greatest painters ever, Claude Monet, was born. So, guess whose work will we feature today?  :)

Impressionists kept themselves very busy on their holidays. Woman with a Parasol—showing Madame Monet and her son—belongs to a series of paintings executed by Monet during the summers of 1875 and 1876. It portrays the garden of his second home in Argenteuil. The human figure, which had played a negligible role in his paintings till then, took on a renewed importance, with his beloved wife Camille serving as his constant model. This painting was one of 18 that the artist contributed to the second Impressionist Exhibition (held in April 1876). Presented under the title La Promenade, it received relatively little notice at the time, but the few comments it received were favorable.

P.S. How does Star Wars compose with the classic art? Here you can see Darth Vader as Monet's woman with a parasol :D
