The influence of Edvard Munch, whose exhibition was held in Prague in 1905, is evident in the unfinished painting, Promenade in the Rieger Gardens. In Kubišta's works, the spontaneous intuitiveness of Munch's paintings collides with a precisely thought-out composition and geometric stylization of the figures. The use of warm colors in the foreground and their complementary counterparts in the treetops adds a positive charge to the artwork. The dynamism of the painting is provided in perspective with the distressing path and diagonal lines. Ghostly rays of light add a theatrical dimension to the image. We present today's work thanks to the National Gallery in Prague.
