Today we present a true Rococo masterpiece.  The Chocolate Girl is by the amazing Jean-Étienne Liotard, a Swiss painter, art connoisseur, and dealer best known for his portraits in pastel. Here we see a chocolate-serving maid, who carries a tray with a porcelain chocolate cup and a glass of water. The painting's style is almost without shadows, before a light ground, receiving its light from two windows reflected in the glass. It is worked in halftones, with imperceptible gradations of light, and of perfect relief. When you look at it, it is very understandable why Liotard's contemporaries called this work his masterpiece.
