Composition Dada

Oil on canvas • 27 x 34.5 cm
  • Sophie Taeuber Arp - 19 January 1889 - 13 January 1943 Sophie Taeuber Arp 1920

Sophie Taeuber-Arp was a Swiss artist, painter, sculptor, textile designer, furniture and interior designer, architect, and dancer! At an exhibition in 1915, she met the German-French artist Hans/Jean Arp for the first time and married him later. They both became associated with the Dada movement. Taeuber-Arp’s textile and graphic works from around 1916 through the 1920s are among the earliest Constructivist works, along with those of Piet Mondrian and Kazimir Malevich. These sophisticated geometric abstractions reflect a subtle understanding of the interplay between color and form.

Unfortunately, we rarely present art from the 20th century because of the copyrights.  Today, though, we were able to publish this fascinating piece, which is also featured in our 2024 DailyArt Desk Calendar (now on sale for -40%)! Check it out in the DailyArt Shop; we have the last copies left!  :)

P.S. Sonia Delaunay was another artist who combined art with design and fashion. Take a look at her incredible wearable art!
