We continue our celebrations of Women's History Month with this beautiful painting of the only American painter who exhibited with the Impressionists, Mary Cassatt.
Here she portrayed a mother and her child in bed. Cassatt was amazing in capturing the sweetness and intimacy of everyday moments. The mother is hugging her baby really close, and she looks so happy and relaxed while doing it. She's keeping a close eye on her child, making sure everything's okay. Just like the mom, the baby seems to be looking at something. It's like they're checking out a cup on the bedside table, probably their breakfast.
Have a calm Saturday everyone! :)
P.S. Mary Cassatt's artworks are featured in our Women Artists Notebook, which is now available with a 25% discount :) We've got only a few copies left!
P.S. Cassatt tried to break traditional barriers in depicting mothers in art. We have selected 5 of her most delicate portrayals of motherhood.
