Today, it is the last masterpiece we feature on the occasion of the special month with the National Gallery of Victoria's collection. We hope you enjoyed it!  :)

Scenes of recreation and leisure were a recurring focus for Ethel Carrick, with the artist often depicting fashionably dressed people promenading in gardens or shopping at French markets. Here, the artist’s stylized portrayal of bouquets captures the tranquility and beauty of the French flower market. The artist’s distinctive, luminous palette is evident in this painting. It was developed during her studies at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, when she looked to Camille Pissarro and Claude Monet for inspiration. The work has visual parallels with paintings produced by E. Phillips Fox, who was working on similar scenes of fashionable leisure around this time, and who also employed a strikingly lucent palette.
