Today is World Health Day, a global health awareness day celebrated every year under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization. Don't forget to do something good for yourself today, have a relaxing walk, and eat some healthy food.  :)

The painting we present today shows the freshness of newly emerged leaves and the artist’s creative response to them. His distinctive vision and sensitivity—qualities that permeate his work—are clearly evident here, offering viewers a quietly surprising and singular charm. These qualities are especially striking in a work created early in the Taishō period (in Japan, 1912–1926), when new artistic directions were beginning to take shape.

The artist is Gyoshū Hayami, who was a Japanese painter in the Nihonga style. Nihonga refers to paintings developed over 77 years, from the Meiji Restoration to the end of World War II, based on traditional Japanese techniques and styles, such as calligraphy and hand-painting, rather than oil painting associated with Western art.
