Interior With Woman in Red

Oil on canvas • 92.5 x 70.5 cm
  • Félix Vallotton - December 28, 1865 - December 29, 1925 Félix Vallotton 1903

Félix Vallotton, a Swiss-French painter and printmaker, was closely affiliated with the artistic collective recognized as Les Nabis. His contributions were pivotal in shaping the evolution of modern woodcut techniques. Vallotton displayed his mastery across various genres, including portraiture, landscapes, nudes, still lifes, and more, all characterized by an emotionally detached yet highly realistic style. Notably, he is one of my favorite painters as well.  :)

In 1903, Vallotton and his wife Gabrielle relocated to a charming villa nestled near the Bois de Boulogne, specifically on Rue des Belles-Feuilles in Paris. The vista that unfolds through the succession of rooms Gabrielle traverses, starting from her studio and leading to the bedroom, stands out as the most extensive and intricate among a collection of interior portrayals. In this period, Gabrielle appeared in many of Vallotton's paintings.
