What I really love about DailyArt is the ability to present to you some of my favorite artists. Félix Vallotton is definitely one of them!

Vallotton was a Swiss and French painter and printmaker associated with the group of artists known as Les Nabis. He was an important figure in the development of the modern woodcut. He painted portraits, landscapes, nudes, still lifes, and other subjects in an unemotional, realistic style.

With over 200 woodcuts created, Vallotton became a key figure in the late 19th-century revival of the medium. His bold, simplified style—marked by stark black-and-white contrasts and stylized forms—captures both the distinct character of each poker player and the glow of the candelabra illuminating an otherwise shadowed room. You can explore more Vallotton's prints here.

P.S. Speaking of prints ... Did you know that our DailyArt Shop offers a beautiful collection of premium prints, ready to hang on your wall?
