  • Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - November 24, 1864 - September 9, 1901 Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec 1892–1895

This is one of a number of works by Toulouse-Lautrec that depict the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret built in Paris in 1889. Lautrec has painted a group of three men, and two women sitting around a table; The people at the table are (from right to left); Édouard Dujardin (French writer, one of the early users of the stream of consciousness literary technique), dancer La Macarona, photographer Paul Secau and Maurice Guibert. The woman in the foreground is the English dancer May Milton. In the background on the right you can see La Goulue with a partner.  If you look behind the table of artists you will find Lautrec himself with Gabriel Tapié de Céleyran. In one sentence—this was the real Boheme!
